Mission: Mission 0: In the beginning....
Location: Crew Lounge

Alex sat in what he would assume was a type of 10 forward. He had just sat down after grabbing a beer and figured he would enjoy his time people watching. Not to look stalkerish he had brought with him the latest data padd with information on the latest simulation game being released so he could catch up on it.

Flynn had been splitting his days between the work involved in on-boarding the crew and making sure that the ship itself was ready for departure and getting his office and quarters set up. The latter being a lot easier to accomplish than the former and since the ship had yet to launch, he'd been spending time in the ocean as well which was where he was headed but first, food. He put in his order and headed for a spot near a view port, nodding to the officer hunkered over a PADD as he passed.

Alex looked up. "Good day sir. Hope you are enjoying it so far."

"It's about to get a lot better," Flynn said. "Heading down to the ocean after I get something to eat. How about you? Things going well?"

"Quite well. This is a very well organized ship. I'm very lucky." Alex said.

"Aren't they all," Flynn said. His expression, an almost Vulcan-like calm, turned just the tiniest bit quizzical. "Ships, I mean. Starfleet runs on organization."

"Yes." Alex nodded. "It is great to serve here, This is a new ship for me. I can't wait to get to know her well."

"Where was your last posting," Flynn asked.

"Just before this i was on the Vanguard helping with their operations department. Prior to that I was a Chief Engineer," Alex said.

"What made you switch to Operations," Flynn asked. He remembered reading through the commander's bio, not all the details of course, just a few pertinent facts. Ship names and the like. Why he'd switched paths wasn't a part of the record and he found himself curious.

"I wanted more. One day I'd like to be a captain of a ship, so I figured experience all over would be a good thing. Plus there was a role that needed to be filled and I had no problems filling it," Alex said.

"It's a good idea," Flynn said. "Learning how each of the departments work, how they interact with each other, where the pain points are. That's all very helpful. Over time, you begin to see how the ship works as a whole rather than just from a limited perspective."

Alex nodded. "I've always grown up trying to learn what I can. I was even considering taking some medical courses."

"Might be better to a course or two in xenopsychology," Flynn said. "Something more in depth than what is taught at the Academy. You gain a new level of insight in how to manage members of the crew and how to handle situations that arise on away teams."

"I appreciate the idea. I'll start looking into it." Alex said with a grin.

"Well, I'd best be going," Flynn said. "The ocean awaits. Nice chatting with you."

"Same with you. Looking forward to working with you." Alex said smiling.
